atelier escha & logy logs / recap

this is a story of two young alchemist coworkers in a declining world of ruin. what will they get up to? we began this story on sept 13, 2024, and haven't finished yet.

part 1- sept 13, 2024 (chapter 1 / year 1) (i lost the vod!)

this was my first stream, heheh!

we were introduced to our two alchemists: escha, a magical girl furry with a doll mom, and logy, a dapper white-haired chuunibyou with an alchemical sword. the two of them have been hired as coworkers in a small town in the west of the land of dusk. accompanying them are:

i like both of them, but chose to play escha because of her fluffy alchemical tail. while the two are hired as alchemists, their workshop only has a cauldron and logy, as a city boy, doesn't know how to use such archaic equipment. because of this, escha does the brewing while logy learns.

the game's structure is such that marion gives the two a new assignment to help around the town every four months, and they can take the time they need to talk with people, explore, and alchemize. we accomplished our starter mission (make some parts for a windmill by scavenging the surrounding ruins) pretty quickly, and are exploring the nearby world as we enter summer.

part 2- sept 16, 2024 (chapter 2 start / year 1; VOD)

our alchemists had some time to kill before the next season, so they spent the summer beating up squirrels on the abandoned highway. with the onset of august came the next act, with a new round of missions. chief among them was to investigate the ruins to the south. my favorite! we proceeded south, hoping to discover the researcher who made it before us.

the researcher's name is threia hazelgrimm, a name which may sound familiar if you've played atelier ayesha. she wears a big overcoat over her shoulders and is definitely a lady count type... like her ayesha predecessor, she's a bit rude too... ahh...! well, expressing her frustration with r+d, she joins up with escha and logy, making her our fourth party member =w=

oh, logy got his alchemy equipment finally! he actually likes cool swords so much he learned to make them as a hobby. cool guy...

part 3- sep 18, 2024 (chapter 2 end / year 1; VOD)

i reset the timeline in order to continue escha and logy's story on the DX / Steam version of the game (initially was playing on the original ps3 version, but i couldn't find the character dlc). it was the only way to get wilbell. i'll bear the burden of my sins.

mostly quiet stream- lots of adventuring, cute moments with escha + logy, exciting times with threia. our next quest's to help a village to the north that's run out of water- will our alchemists be able to help?

part 4- sep 23, 2024 (chapter 3 / year 1; VOD)

our alchemists were able to help, but we're no closer to understanding the cause of the drought. what is the nature of this world they live in, and its large-scale environmental collapse?

well, they're not worrying about it too much for now. we got reefer the horny american as a new party member and he's not bad, the devs clearly had a lot of fun putting a cowboy in atelier. escha learned how to make multiple new types of bombs and cakes, mirroring the alchemical civilization of eld's path to self-destruction. linca learned that if you don't get good at work people will expect less of you. clone showed up at escha's job and asked her coworker whether she's been doing a good job right in front of her ("MOM!!!"). i'm so very pleased to be able to share this story with you all.

at the start of escha and logy's second year, a kindly nurse girl joins our party. what could the cause of the village's drought be? what will come of marion's violation of child labor laws? we'll find out next time.

part 5- sep 27, 2024 (chapter 4 / year 2; VOD)

lucille rules she's a sweet nurse girl who tosses pills and syringes at enemies and does an oversized backpack dance in battle. we also met our final party member, micie, an adorable little dandy who annoys everyone by being too serious about his job. it's a shame because if he quit the entire town would be his biggest fans. he likes to pull out roses and offer sage advice even though he's probably like 14.

this was quite a long stream, but our first boss fight's down. the cause of the village's drought is a bit better understood, but it's not clear how to resolve it, or whether it can be resolved...

part 6- sep 30, 2024 (chapter 5 start / year 2; VOD)

we're halfway through! this is getting to be quite the adventure.

this was a really fun session. escha/nio/clone sweetness, wilbell shenanigans, cute cutscenes for most of the characters, multiple new musical numbers, and a killer boss theme. the second boss has been defeated, a slag guardian of a graveyard of poor discarded robots. i'm glad katla was there to show them all some love. speaking of katla, we finally got the book from her that could help build an airship for reaching the unreachable island, so maybe we'll be headed there soon...?

part 7- oct 2, 2024 (chapter 5 end / year 2; VOD)

i didn't write this one down as soon as i streamed it so i forgot. sorry! lots of crafting though

part 8- oct 7, 2024 (chapter 6 / year 2; VOD)

i didn't write this one down as soon as i streamed it so i forgot. sorry!

this one was very crafting-heavy too, though they fought a sizable boss in the old slag ruins and had a nice discussion with threia about history. i made a giant hammer alchemical item for escha and alongside her magical picture book she's well and truly a pictomancer, with the absurd personal dps to fit. i'm so proud of her...

part 9- oct 9, 2024 (chapter 7 start / year 3; VOD)

i was wondering why the previous two streams were kind of quiet and it turns out: the "building an airship that can reach the sky island" bit stopped with them mentioning they needed some kind of gas. i assumed that if a gas was needed marion would tell escha to do it as part of her job and there'd be a big quest marker indicating it. actually, no, escha just got the recipe and needed to craft it herself and as soon as she did we started getting three sessions' worth of cutscenes. isn't it interesting, playing an office game and just assuming that if there was something important that needed doing, my boss would tell me? my brain's been consumed by human salarywoman rot; please put me out of my misery.

after that we found out why logy was so reluctant to see the airship get built. rather than telling you why, though, why don't you watch it for yourself? i'm afraid i don't want to spoil the most emotional scene i've seen from him with mere hollow words.

there was a whole three hours of stream before that, of course, even though he stole the show. did you catch the bit where threia asks escha to quit her job at r+d and come live with her as her maid instead?

part 10- oct 14, 2024 (chapter 7 end / year 3; VOD)

part 11- nov 11, 2024 (chapter 8 / year 3; VOD)

i was away for a while with travel and other inconveniences. this one has a photo album from my journey to japan, by the way! it might be a fun watch even on its own.

part 12- nov 18, 2024 (chapter 9 start / year 3; VOD)

part 13- nov 25, 2024 (chapter 9 middle / year 3; VOD)

we reached the edge of the world with awin. he spent his whole life hoping to find it, practicing his craft, dreaming of a green paradise. what he found there... perhaps it's better not to say. it's for him to know, and those that reached that place with him. but i hope he can find the paradise he dreamed of one day, whether it's in a land beyond or in the land and hearts around him.

and then immediately after we also saw linca and linca getting drunk together. i don't think this game would hit as hard as it does at its crushing apocalypse tragedy if it wasn't so clearly made with love at its silly whimsy. please, play atelier dusk.
